Bio.

Olivia Rose Roberts is a Canadian comic and pop artist from Kimberley, British Columbia. Born
in Fernie, British Columbia, she graduated from Fernie Secondary School in 2016 and enrolled at
Camosun College in Victoria in September that same year. At Camosun College, she took the 8
month long Comics and Graphic Novels Program under comic artist veterans Ken and Joan
Steacy and graduated the program with the Comics and Graphic Novels Program Certificate in
June of 2017. Olivia would move from Fernie to Kimberley in November of that same year.

After a couple of years contributing to several comics gigs for Frisson Comics and Hell
Cat Press, Olivia enrolled in the Bachelor of Fine Arts at Thompson Rivers University 2020 to
expand her skills as an artist. Due to then new COVID-19 pandemic, her first year was
conducted online before in-studio work was permitted in Fall Semester 2021. While at TRU,
Olivia experimented with combining elements of comic art with fine art disciplines and
techniques such as printmaking and painting. This resulted in Olivia applying and receiving the
UREAP Scholarship in 2022 for her comic art thesis titled The Hidden World of Fine Art Comics,
which explores comic art as a legitimate form of fine art practice using historic examples such as
Michaelangelo’s Sistine Chapel.

In addition to her art studies at TRU, Olivia has also studied Beginners Level Japanese and was
also the president of the Thompson Rivers University Japanese Club from Fall 2021-Winter
2025. Olivia has also participated in TRU Art Gallery exhibitions.

In the past couple of years, Olivia has been offering caricature portraits at Sun Rivers
Community Fair and the local Art Markets in Kimberley. Olivia also has continued her comic
work and has shown some of her work at the Centre 64 Gallery in Kimberley in group
exhibitions.

Several motifs of pop culture from comic and film influences are incorporated into
Olivia’s art, both as an aesthetic choice and works that explore commentary such as censorship in
a satirical approach. While focus is usually on humour, Olivia also has explored the horror genre
while contributing to primarily horror indie publishers such as Frisson Comics. Other interests
include retro media, physical media, animation, manga, and roller derby. Primarily a 2D
traditional artist, Olivia prefers creating art via mixed media.
